BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

Pastor Joe Serrano & Family
Missionary to El Paso, Texas
Education:
West Coast Baptist Church College/Institute B. A. Pastoral Studies, May, 2004
United States Marine Corps, CWO2 Retired, 2001
Salvation:
I received Jesus Christ as my personal Savior on September 21, 1997, at the age of 38 when I was a Marine stationed in Iwakuni, Japan. I was an alcoholic who was won to the Lord through the testimony of my wife.
My Calling:
Seven months after my salvation, I surrendered my life completely to serve Jesus Christ after reading Acts 20. The Lord impressed upon me the selfless service of the Apostle Paul to Jesus, and gave me the desire to serve Him in the same way. After leaving Japan in 2000 we were stationed at Camp Pendleton, California, and the Lord led me to West Coast Baptist Church in Vista, California. I enrolled in the Bible college/institute and during a mission’s conference, after hearing a missionary share his burden, the Lord burdened my heart also for the people of El Paso, Texas. My family and I surrendered to be missionaries not knowing yet that the Lord would eventually lead us to El Paso. The Lord took us out of this area 20 years ago for a purpose, and now we know that His purpose was to show us the truth and to train us for full time service. It had never been my desire to come back to this area, but God has since shown us the great need in this area of El Paso and has given us peace about coming to minister here. There are few Independent Fundamental Baptist Churches in this city of 800,000 people, and there are none in the lower valley. The people are doing what is right in their own eyes, and being led astray by false religions and many other devilish cults. My wife and I are both fluent in English and in Spanish and our calling is to both English and Spanish speaking people.
Ministry Goals:
Our first goal was to establish an Independent Fundamental Baptist Church in El Paso’s lower valley. That goal was completed on January 29, 2006 when the doors of Valley Baptist Church were opened for the first time. Our second goal is to train men for full time service in the ministry through the establishment of a Bible Institute. Our third goal is to work with other Baptist pastors across the border in the city of Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico to further the Gospel of Jesus Christ in Mexico.
Our Church and Mission:
I am sent through West Coast Baptist Missions, a ministry of my local church, West Coast Baptist Church, in Vista, California. We joined West Coast Baptist Church in July of 2000 while I was serving in the United States Marine Corps. Dr. Wesley Clark was used of God to start the church in 1972. He was pastor of the church until a stroke forced him to retire and he became Pastor Emeritus in 1992, and his son Dr. Phil Clark became the present pastor. In 1996 our church, led of God, took a step of faith and established West Coast Baptist Missions. We currently support over 40 missionaries throughout the world, and six of them are home sent missionaries to Guatemala; Mexico City; Tepic, Nayarit, Mexico; Estonia; Michigan; and El Paso, Texas.
